Club Banna Sprint Tri

07.03.2010

Registration Opens Monday 22nd March @ 12pm

  • 750m sea swim
  • 33km cycle
  • 5km beach run
This is the Triathlon each club has been waiting for.  A chance for club members to see what they can do for their club and fellow team members, without putting ‘numero uno’ first!  This is a Sprint Triathlon with a difference, for one day only at the end of the Tri calendar year, club members will race not thinking about their PB’s and individual time splits.  But instead will be racing solely for their Club and fellow team mates in an overall Club Championship Triathlon.

Alive Outside is proud to announce this as the first concept of its kind in Ireland.  A race that will determine on the day which club can boast the honour of having the best Triathlon field competing across various categories and crowned overall Club Banna Tri Champions 2010.

* This sprint triathlon is also open to individual competitors who are not racing with a club.

Club Banna Triathlon

Alive Outside, through the Irish Tag Rugby Association (ITRA) has been successfully organising Beach Tag competitions at Banna for the past 2 years with huge success, so we can fully vouch for this weekend being a big hit with Triathlon from a social point viewpoint.   Club Banna Tri is confident we will prove to be one of the best and largest social occasions in the year, right up there with Valentia and Hell of the West. Boasting a fantastic & exclusive site with a full schedule of events for pre and post race socialising!

Club Banna Tri is situated at the Banna Beach Resort, Tralee, County Kerry.  It is one of Ireland’s leading holiday resorts located just a short walk from the breathtaking Banna Strand, with 10km of pristine beach. This is a self contained holiday village boasting over 100+ four star luxury holiday cottages.  The Banna Leisure facility has a gymnasium, swimming pool, astro turf pitch, restaurant, bar & nightclub, supermarket and surfing facilities on beach. And yes folks... the whole resort is reserved for you and fellow Triathletes to compete and party the whole weekend away!

Club Banna Tri Benefits for Clubs:

  • Perfect opportunity for your club to target this race and weekend away as a ‘club’ destination race on the calendar
  • Club Secretary friendly; in other words logistically this is easy to organise accommodation, food, and race entries, as it’s all on site and a 1 stop shop!
  • Wear  your club colours with pride and show off your club to other Triathletes.  After all your club could be crowned Club Banna Tri Champions 2010
  • Amazing social venue to meet people and let your hair down (if ever you needed an excuse, now’s your chance)
  • Ideal last opportunity to close out the 2010 Tri season in style with one last Tri and post race party celebrations... after all it will be a long winter till 2011 race season!

The Alive Outside Club Banna Tri ‘Team’ concept:

Alive Outside Sports Events Company is looking at a race where the whole club can get involved.  It doesn’t matter if you are at the high end of your club rankings, middle or a ‘newbie’.  Alive Outside has designed this race around the TEAM ethos... after all there is no ‘I’ in TEAM!

Club Banna Triathlon

The race works as follows:

Each Triathlon Club will enter members in as many or all of the following categories as possible. The more team categories you enter, the better chance of scoring more points for your club.

The idea is to get each TEAM finishing as high as they can, with TEAM points being accumulated throughout the race.  The club with the highest accumulated overall points will be crowned Club Banna Tri Champions 2010.

Race Format:

Race Concept & Rules

  • The idea is that with Club TEAMS, the 4 club racers in each category and division must FINISH the sprint triathlon race together!  So it is a ‘team’ effort, and you are only as fast as your slowest team mate i.e. “the weakest link in your chain” as Ann would say!  Whole team must cross the Finish Line, with the person who is wearing the timing chip in front & next 3 team mates with their right arm on person in front’s shoulder when crossing the line.
  • We will not bother with age-group categories (except for Combined Age category), but concentrate on Team Categories instead.
  • Only 1 person has designated timing chip.
  • This is a ‘Draft Legal’ race, so bike drafting is permitted.   Official ITU drafting regulations apply.
  • All Club racers must have club uniform to be properly identified as a team.
  • Each category will have clearly marked race bibs with their category.
  • Before race, each club will parade on beach in club gear, similar to Olympics.
  • Your club can parade with a club mascot...any ideas will do.  Competition for best club mascot (prize).  Cuddly toy, pet dog, flag etc.

Scoring system

  • Set of scoring points where each of your Registered Teams finish.
  • The more ‘Team Categories’ you enter, possible total of 14 categories listed, the greater chance of taking the overall Club Banna Tri Championship title.
  • If two or more Clubs finish level on overall points, the team with the fastest Ball & Chain time (Hubby & wife) is deemed champion.
