 5 KM Trail Run

This Sprint Triathlon has generated great interest from both seasoned Triathletes and 'newbies' alike.
Just some of the many reasons why you can't miss this Sprint Triathlon to get your summer off to the best possible start:

  • Slane Castle is just a short 25min drive from the M50, N2 Ashbourne exit

  • This a newbie friendly race, with beginner waves for slower swimmers,

  • The Sprint distance swim (750m) is straight down river with the flow (the River Boyne at the Slane section is NOT a fast flowing river!)

  • This race is an afternoon start; between 1 - 2pm is first wave, finished by 5pm.
So participants can travel to event on the day and Registration is in morning.

  • Very scenic down river swim and run course enclosed within the Castle grounds for easy
    viewing by family & friends
.  During the run section, you can be cheered on at multiple
    points along cross country course.

  • Fantastic Post Race Party in Castle Courtyard, with live band FISH OUT OF WATER,
creating a special atmosphere after Triathlon from 5pm - 9pm, you can celebrate a new PB,
or your 1st ever Triathlon - even two of the band members are participating in our Triathlon!

  • Free Hog Roast BBQ to all competitors

  • Experience the First ever Triathlon @ Slane Castle, one of Ireland's most iconic music
    venues
.  Now that there is not going to be a concert for 2010, all eyes will be on our Triathlon!

  • Sprint Distance: 750m straight down river swim in River Boyne from the Castle embankment
  • 22km cycle (2 x 11km loops) on R163 and N51
  • 5km cross country run in grounds of Slane Castle.

AliveOutside Tri models with Ireland's original Lord of Rock

We are delighted to announce the most exciting new addition to the Triathlon Ireland calendar for 2010. Are you looking for a new race?  Have you got all the other race T-shirts?  Do you want more than just a plain Triathlon? Yes? Well, we’ve got a gem of a race in store for you!

Lord Henry Mount Charles has been hosting outdoor concerts since 1981, with world renowned acts such as Rolling Stones, Madonna, Queen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and REM all playing at Slane Castle.

Now this truly iconic Irish venue will be hosting its first triathlon with the blessing of Henry, himself a keen sportsman, where the castle grounds will become your personal battlefield.

Starting with a 750m swim in the River Boyne, this is not a fast flowing section of the river!  Participants will walk 750m up river on the grass pathway between the Boyne and forest, where they will enter the water from a pontoon and swim down river with the flow for 750m escorted by safety kayaks and ribs.  Participants will exit the river from just below the embankment of the castle at the slip way.  The transition zone will be in the grassy lawns.

The bike route will take you down the castle driveway, out the gates and onto a challenging 22km route (2 x 11km loops) on the R163 and N51 open roads.  These will be well Marshal'd by Alive Outside officials and An Garda Síochána

Sprint Triathlon at Slane Castle

The final part of the race is a 5km cross country run within Slane Castle’s hallowed grounds, and yes folks, we have kept the best till last! This run takes you away from roads and traffic, pollution and stress, through a 2.8km tranquil forest section where the overhanging trees create a magical natural canopy. You could actually be in another world! (please see video of trail run above).

The climax is without doubt your run towards the finish line where you exit the forest and sweep down through the natural amphitheatre and approach the final 300m. With the finishing gantry in sight and Slane Castle acting as a majestic backdrop, you will cross the finish line to the cheers of family and friends in what is certain to be a cherished memory.   RUN ROUTE:

And we hope you will stay around after the race to unwind and meet fellow triathletes in the relaxed atmosphere of the Slane Castle courtyard. Your registration fee includes a free Hog Roast BBQ meal, while there will be bar facilities available to perhaps celebrate a new personal best, the completion of your first Triathlon or just having the craic. And as Slane is a mecca for music, we will have live music to compliment a great post race atmosphere with the band FISH OUT OF WATER.  In fact two of the band members have signed up to do the race before they start the party!

So register now for the Alive Outside Sprint Triathlon at Slane Castle… the “must do” race for 2010.
