Winter Duathlon - Race 3

28/03/10, Phoenix Park, €25.00

RACE FULL!

Race Report - Sun 28th March 2010

After two very successful previous races in the Winter Duathlon Series in the Phoenix Park, the last race promised to be the biggest and best yet. Over 350 people signed up to take part and with the sun shining for most of the day, Race 3 definitely lived up to expectations.

As normal. first up were the Experienced Male and Females participants. Their run course snaked 2.6km around the soccer and GAA pitches, while they were required to cycle 3 laps along Kyber > Military & Acres Roads (13km) and finish up with another 2.6km sprint towards the finish line.

Niall Somers

In the Experienced Men's Race, Niall Somers came home in pole position in a time of 37:26 mins - a full minute and half quicker than his winning time for Race 1 back on 7th Feb. Bronagh Ni Bhriain took the honours in the Experienced Women’s Race in an excellent time of 42:52 mins. After the Experienced racers finished up, it was the turn of the real stars of the event – the Newbie Male and Females, many of whom had never done a race like this before. Over a slightly shorter course (2km run, 9km cycle, 2km run), the Newbies were cheered on by family, friends and the Alive Outside race marshals, creating a great atmosphere, especially at the finish line where all participants were greeted by music, a bottle of Powerade and a free Alive Outside gift!

First Newbie Male home was the impressive Trevor Conroy in 32:39 mins, while Kim Hickey had a fantastic race in the Newbie Females winning in 38:17. All winners received a trophy and two tickets to a night at the dogs so we hope all four of you have a great night out, compliments of Alive Outside!

Trevor Conroy

Overall Series Winners

Congratulations also to Niall Somers and Kitty Perle, who won the Overall Series Male and Female prizes. Niall had two wins and a third place in the three races, while Kitty had first, second and third placed finishes. Both win €100 vouchers for Columbia clothing. We're looking forward to seeing you kitted out in new gear at an Alive Outside event in the near future!
